COLLINSVILLE, Ala. — A woman was shot by law enforcement following a multi-agency pursuit in DeKalb County on Saturday afternoon, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).
The incident began after the Dade County, Georgia Sheriff’s Office issued a BOLO (Be on the Lookout) for a vehicle. ALEA said the vehicle was later located on Interstate 59 in DeKalb County by a deputy who attempted a traffic stop shortly before 4:30 p.m.
According to state troopers, the driver refused to stop and a pursuit ensued. Officers from the Collinsville Police Department and Alabama State Troopers assisted in the chase. At some point, the vehicle became disabled.
Authorities say the driver, identified as 49-year-old Amy Schulte of Winchester, Virginia, refused commands from law enforcement. She was subsequently struck by gunfire. ALEA’s initial release did not specify which agency fired the shots or whether Schulte was armed or posed an immediate threat at the time of the incident.
Schulte was transported to UAB Hospital for treatment. Her current condition has not been publicly released. No officers were injured during the chase or the shooting, officials said.
ALEA reports that the investigation remains active and ongoing. Upon completion, findings will be submitted to the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office for review.
