Afternoon Fire on Monday Damages Leesburg Home; Cause Under Investigation

LEESBURG, Ala. — Multiple fire departments responded Tuesday afternoon to a residential structure fire on County Road 42, just off U.S. Highway 411 in Leesburg.


According to dispatch information, emergency crews were called to the scene at approximately 2:56 p.m. The response included the Leesburg Fire Department, Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency (EMA), and mutual aid from the Centre Fire Department, Sand Rock Fire Department, and Tucker’s Chapel Fire Department.



Firefighters arrived to find the home heavily involved in fire and quickly began an aggressive attack to bring the blaze under control. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of the responding agencies, crews were able to knock down the fire in a relatively short amount of time, preventing it from spreading further.


Although the flames were extinguished quickly, firefighters remained on scene for several hours conducting overhaul operations, extinguishing hot spots, and ensuring the fire was completely contained.


The home sustained extensive fire damage, as well as significant smoke and water damage.


Authorities have not released additional information regarding the circumstances surrounding the fire. The cause remains under investigation, and no injuries were reported.
