Gadsden Voters Cast Ballots in Contested Council and School Board Races

GADSDEN, Ala. — Voters across the City of Gadsden are casting ballots Tuesday, Aug. 25, in the city’s 2026 municipal election, with several contested City Council and Gadsden City Board of Education races appearing alongside the mayoral contest.

Polls are open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

While the mayor’s race between incumbent Craig Ford and challenger Thomas Worthy is being decided citywide, several districts will also choose representatives for the City Council and Board of Education.

Contested City Council Races

Several incumbent council members are seeking another term.

District 3 City Council

• Larry J. Avery Jr. — Incumbent

• Denecia Ann Getaw

District 5 City Council

• Linda Riggins Aaron

• Jason Wilson — Incumbent

District 6 City Council

• Dixie Minatra — Incumbent

• Renay Stokes Reeves

District 7 City Council

• Singn Horn

• Chris Robinson — Incumbent

Board of Education Races

Two contested seats on the Gadsden City Board of Education are also being decided.

District 1 Board of Education

• Adrienne Reed — Incumbent

• Cynthia W. Toles

District 4 Board of Education

• K. Tiffany Ballou

• Mike Haney — Incumbent

Only contested offices appear on district ballots, so voters may see different races depending on where they live.

District 5 Race Follows Death of Jason Wilson

The District 5 City Council race comes just days after the death of incumbent Councilman Jason Wilson, who died Aug. 19.

Wilson’s name remains on the printed ballot alongside challenger Linda Riggins Aaron.

Because ballots had already been prepared, Wilson remains listed as a candidate, creating an unusual circumstance for District 5 voters.

If Wilson receives enough votes to win the race, the eventual filling of the seat would be handled in accordance with applicable municipal and state procedures.

Where to Vote

Gadsden residents must vote at the municipal polling location assigned to their voting district and box.

The city mailed postcards to registered voters in July listing their district and polling place.

District 2A: East Gadsden Community Center, 921 Wilson Avenue

District 2B: Thompson Community Center, 236 Goldenrod Avenue

District 3A: Abundant Life Church gym, 323 South 12th Street

District 3B: Carver Community Center, 1030 Tuscaloosa Avenue

District 3C: Thompson Community Center, 236 Goldenrod Avenue

District 4A: The Venue, 201 George Wallace Drive

District 4B: Meadowbrook Baptist Church Family Life Center, 2525 Rainbow Drive

District 4C: Downtown Civic Center, 623 Broad Street

District 5A: Downtown Civic Center, 623 Broad Street

District 5B: The Tabernacle Church, 1301 South 11th Street

District 6A: Senior Wellness Center, 2829 West Meighan Boulevard

District 6B: Walnut Park Community Center, 3200 Walnut Street

District 7A: Senior Wellness Center, 2829 West Meighan Boulevard

District 7B: Kiwanis Pavilion, 1500 Noccalula Road

Voter Identification

Voters should bring an approved photo ID to the polls.

Acceptable identification includes an Alabama driver’s license or nondriver ID, Alabama photo voter ID card, U.S. passport, military identification, tribal identification, and certain government or college-issued photo identification cards.

Voters who do not have an approved form of identification may be allowed to cast a provisional ballot.

Results and Possible Runoffs

Polls close at 7 p.m., with unofficial election results expected to begin coming in afterward.

If no candidate receives the required number of votes in a race requiring a majority, a runoff election is scheduled for Sept. 22.

The city’s newly elected administration is scheduled to take office Nov. 2.
