NORTHEAST ALABAMA — Rain returns to the area today and tonight, followed by a mild and gradually clearing weekend, according to the latest forecast.
Today, expect mostly cloudy skies with a 50% chance of rain after mid-afternoon. High temperatures will reach near 62 degrees, with light southwest winds. Rainfall amounts today should remain light.
Tonight, rain becomes more widespread. Periods of showers and a few thunderstorms are possible,
especially between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m. Overnight lows will fall to around 46 degrees, and patchy fog may develop late. Rain chances are 90%, with rainfall totals up to three-quarters of an inch in some areas.
Saturday will bring lingering morning showers, with a 50% chance of rain before noon. Fog should lift by late morning, and skies will stay mostly cloudy with highs near 60 degrees. Conditions improve by Saturday night, which will be partly cloudy and cooler, with lows around 36.
The second half of the weekend looks pleasant. Sunday will be sunny with highs in the upper 50s, cooling to the mid-30s Sunday night.
Early next week stays mild, with highs in the low to mid-60s Monday and Tuesday under partly sunny skies.
By midweek, temperatures climb toward 70 degrees, with scattered rain chances returning Wednesday and Thursday.
Motorists should use caution tonight and Saturday morning where fog and wet roads may reduce visibility.
