FORT PAYNE, Ala. — The DeKalb County Drugs and Major Crimes Unit, working in partnership with the United States Marshals Service, has assisted in the arrest of two fugitives wanted on serious charges who were found living in DeKalb County in recent weeks.

On Thursday, December 18, 2025, investigators with the DeKalb County Drugs and Major Crimes Unit responded to a residence on County Road 764 in Henagar to assist Deputy U.S. Marshals in the apprehension of Kyle Wyatt Martin, 20, of Henagar. Martin was wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service on a Robbery First Degree warrant out of Calhoun County, and was also facing multiple felony warrants through the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.

He was charged on scene with Attempting to Elude and Resisting Arrest, in addition to outstanding warrants for Possession with Intent to Distribute, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana First Degree, Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Martin will be extradited to Calhoun County after his DeKalb County charges are resolved.

A second arrest occurred on Thursday, January 8, 2026, when the DeKalb County Drugs and Major Crimes Unit assisted Deputy U.S. Marshals at a residence on Robin Hood Circle in Fyffe in an effort to locate Jonathan Johnson, 25, of Cleveland, Tennessee. Johnson, a convicted sex offender, was wanted on an active warrant out of Bradley County, Tennessee, for a SORNA violation.

Law enforcement determined Johnson was inside the residence but refusing to exit. The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team (SRT) was mobilized and responded to the scene. After attempts to call Johnson out were unsuccessful, SRT members entered the residence and safely took him into custody. Johnson was charged with Fugitive from Justice and remains incarcerated at the DeKalb County Detention Center while awaiting extradition to Tennessee.

DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden praised the collaborative effort between agencies.

“We are thankful for the men and women of the United States Marshals Service for their unwavering commitment and teamwork in bringing fugitives to justice,” Sheriff Welden said. “I am grateful and proud of the strong working relationship we have with the U.S. Marshals. When agencies work together, great things happen and justice prevails. God bless.”

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office continues to emphasize the importance of interagency cooperation in ensuring public safety and holding wanted individuals accountable.
