St. Clair County Man Found Dead in Submerged Vehicle in Coosa River

ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ala. — A St. Clair County man was found deceased Friday morning after authorities discovered a vehicle submerged in the Coosa River near Riverbend Road.


According to Riverside Mayor Rusty Jessup, Riverside Police responded to a report of a car in the water at approximately 7:45 a.m. on Friday, January 16. Upon arrival, officers located a vehicle partially submerged and observed a body inside.


The Pell City Police Department Dive Team was called to the scene and recovered the individual from the vehicle. The man was later identified as Deepamat Sodhi, a resident of Riverside.


Mayor Jessup said it is believed the vehicle entered the river sometime late Thursday night, January 15, or shortly after midnight on Friday. Surveillance footage from a nearby business reportedly shows Sodhi leaving a parking lot in the area around 11:30 p.m. Thursday night.


The St. Clair County Coroner’s Office confirmed that next of kin have been notified. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. An official cause of death has not yet been released.
