Rainy Start, Colder Night Ahead for Northeast Alabama

TWLN Staff Reporter | The Weekly Ledger News | Weather Update

NORTHEAST ALABAMA — Several large areas of light rain are moving across North and East Alabama early this morning, bringing a damp start to the day for much of the region. Meanwhile, the southwestern portion of the state remains dry.

Forecasters say most of the steady rainfall will gradually move out by this afternoon, with only a few spotty showers lingering across the southern counties. Despite the wet morning, temperatures are expected to climb into the 60s later today.

Conditions will turn noticeably cooler tonight. Overnight lows are forecast to drop into the 30s across the northern half of Alabama, with 40s expected farther south. Dry weather is expected to return for Thursday and Friday, with afternoon highs remaining in the 60s.

Wet Weekend Ahead

Looking ahead, an approaching upper-level trough and surface low are expected to bring another round of rain into the Deep South this weekend.

While much of Saturday may remain dry, scattered showers will still be possible. The most widespread rainfall is expected Saturday night into Sunday, with projected totals ranging between 1 to 2 inches statewide. Some areas of South Alabama could see rainfall amounts exceeding two inches.

A few rumbles of thunder cannot be ruled out, particularly across the southern third of the state. However, forecasters indicate that limited atmospheric instability should prevent severe thunderstorms.

Mild Pattern Next Week

Drier and milder conditions are expected to begin the new week. Monday and Tuesday are forecast to remain dry, with highs ranging between 65 and 75 degrees. Much of Alabama could see temperatures reaching or exceeding 70 degrees by midweek.

Global forecast models suggest only a few isolated showers may develop Wednesday into Thursday, with no significant rainfall currently anticipated.

Residents are encouraged to stay weather-aware as conditions evolve.
