SPRING CREEK, Ala. — One person was injured after an intense house fire tore through a residence in the Spring Creek community during the early morning hours of Wednesday, prompting a multi-department emergency response.
Fire officials said crews were dispatched before sunrise to a structure fire in the 300 block of County Road 573, also known as Sandy Shores. Firefighters from the Spring Creek, Ellisville, and McCord’s fire departments responded, along with Atrium Floyd EMS.
When crews arrived, the home was already fully engulfed in flames, with heavy fire conditions threatening a nearby residence and a camper. A vehicle and an outbuilding on the property also became involved. Firefighters reported downed power lines at the scene, creating hazardous conditions as crews battled the blaze in below-freezing temperatures.
Officials confirmed that one person was believed to be inside the home at the time of the fire. That individual sustained injuries and was transported by Atrium Floyd EMS to a nearby hospital for treatment and further evaluation. No additional injuries were reported.
Cherokee Electric Cooperative responded to the scene to disconnect electrical service, ensuring firefighter safety. Due to limited water access in the area, a water shuttle operation was established, with tanker trucks from the Ellisville and McCord’s fire departments supplying water to pumpers actively fighting the fire.
Despite the challenging conditions, firefighters were able to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to neighboring structures. Crews remained on scene into the morning hours conducting suppression and overhaul operations.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
