Emergency Preparedness Day 2026 Set for April 11 in Centre

CENTRE, Ala. — Residents across Cherokee County will have an opportunity to strengthen their emergency readiness as Cherokee County Emergency Management teams up with Tractor Supply in Centre to host Emergency Preparedness Day 2026 on Saturday, April 11.
The free community event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Tractor Supply and is aimed at helping families better prepare for severe weather and unexpected emergencies, especially as spring storm season approaches in Alabama.
Attendees can expect hands-on learning opportunities and valuable guidance from local emergency officials and first responders. Topics will include tornado safety, severe weather awareness, how to assemble emergency supply kits, and steps families can take to create effective emergency plans.
Several key organizations will be on-site providing information and answering questions, including representatives from the National Weather Service, Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), and local emergency response agencies serving Cherokee County.
Adding to the day’s lineup, ABC 33/40 meteorologist Evan Chickvara is scheduled to attend, offering insight into forecasting severe weather and sharing tips on how residents can stay informed and prepared when dangerous conditions develop.
Emergency management officials emphasize that preparation can make a life-saving difference, encouraging residents to take advantage of this opportunity to learn practical, real-world safety strategies.
