CENTRE, Ala. — A new coffee shop in Centre hosted its grand opening celebration with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday.

Coffee World is owned by Claudia Perez, who teaches English to Spanish-speaking students in Gadsden and also works at Rainbow Church of Christ in Gadsden.

Perez said her coffee journey began at Collinsville Trade Day in a little stand where she began selling her coffee to help ministers have an extra income. Encouraged by regular customers, many from Cherokee County, Perez decided to open a permanent location in Centre.

Perez said she hopes the new shop will not only provide a gathering place for the local community but also support coffee farmers and their families in the countries where the beans are grown. Coffee World plans to feature products sourced from Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, Puerto Rico, Colombia, and El Salvador. Proceeds will also help fund ministers in Central America.

Coffee World offers a huge variety of drinks from lattes to cappuccinos, along with some delectable pastries for people to enjoy.

You can find them in the 7075 Cherokee Plaza in Centre, and they can be reached by phone at 256-266-1153. Coffee World will be open Monday through Saturday from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. and closed on Sundays. The shop also plans to offer delivery service in the near future.
