GADSDEN, Ala. — Gadsden Regional Medical Center has released an official statement following questions and concerns from members of the community regarding a patient treated at the hospital on Saturday.
According to hospital officials, while patient privacy laws prevent the release of specific medical information, the hospital confirmed it worked closely with the Alabama Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention concerning a patient who presented to the emergency room.
Hospital officials emphasized that there are currently no confirmed or suspected cases of viral hemorrhagic fever within the hospital, the local community, or the surrounding region.
The statement comes after concerns circulated throughout the community Saturday regarding emergency activity and reports that the emergency department had temporarily diverted ambulance traffic.
According to the hospital, the emergency room remained open to patients throughout the day, despite the temporary ambulance diversion, and has since fully resumed normal operations, including ambulance transport.
As concerns spread throughout the day, much of the public attention surrounding the incident was fueled by social media posts made before full facts were known, which led to growing concern and speculation across the community.
The Weekly Ledger News reached out directly to Gadsden Regional Medical Center to verify information after reports and social media discussions began circulating that had the potential to cause fear and confusion among residents. Hospital officials provided the below statement in response to those inquiries.
