Cherokee County Authorities Investigate Death of Woman Found in Rock Run Home

ROCK RUN, Ala. — The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office has launched an investigation following the death of a woman discovered inside a residence in the Rock Run community late Friday night.


According to sheriff’s officials, a 911 call was received at approximately 10:55 p.m. reporting a deceased female at a home on County Road 29 near Piedmont. Deputies responded to the location along with Spring Garden Valley Fire Department and Piedmont EMS, where they found a woman and her dog deceased inside the residence.


The victim has been identified as 38-year-old Neely Brooke Williams.


Cherokee County Coroner Paul McDonald stated that foul play is not suspected at this time; however, due to the condition of the body, a forensic examination is being conducted to determine more details surrounding the death. The Jacksonville State University Center for Applied Forensics assisted at the scene, along with personnel from surrounding counties.


The coroner has currently ruled the manner of death undetermined. Next of kin were notified late Sunday night.


Authorities say the investigation remains active and ongoing, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
