CENTRE, Ala. — A late-night altercation between two juveniles turned violent in the Howell’s Crossroads community early Wednesday morning, leaving one hospitalized and another facing serious charges.
According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, the incident occurred just before 1 a.m. on County Road 30 in Cherokee County. Deputies responded swiftly to the scene, where they immediately took the alleged shooter into custody.
Emergency crews from Spring Creek Fire and EMS arrived shortly after, providing critical aid to the victim. The juvenile was transported to a nearby hospital and remains in stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit.
Following the investigation, the suspect was charged with Attempted Murder and is being held at the Cherokee County Detention Center. Sheriff Shaver noted that while the suspect is being charged as an adult, state law prevents the release of his name or booking photo.
Sheriff Shaver praised the quick actions of deputies and first responders:
“Their immediate response not only ensured the situation was brought under control quickly, but also made sure the victim received the medical care they urgently needed,” Shaver said.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the altercation.
