Additional Weather Information...
FRIDAY MORNING: Just after midnight early Friday morning, a wintry mix will move in from the west. We will see a mix of freezing rain and snow gradually move east through midday.
Temperatures will be hovering near freezing. Consistent snow will begin falling for areas along and north of Highway 278 beginning early Friday and will linger through midday. Areas along Interstate 20 will see a good mix of freezing rain and snow mix.
FRIDAY MIDDAY: Late morning and into lunchtime, a rain/snow transition line sets up over the northern half of the area, most likely along/north of the 278 corridor.
This will be the area in which we could see some higher snow accumulations. Initially, this will be very wet/slushy, but this could also eventually lead to some travel trouble spots.
FRIDAY AFTERNOON: A continuation of freezing rain/ice accumulations is possible for far east Alabama, snow possible over northern counties, with a cold rain further south.
FRIDAY NIGHT: Whatever precipitation that does fall will have the opportunity to refreeze overnight. Patchy black ice, with lows in the 20s, is expected Saturday morning.
NEXT 24 HOURS: As far as Wednesday goes, highs will be nearing 40 degrees with a good amount of sunshine.
We will see lows in the teens and 20s by Thursday morning, with highs in the low 40s.
Dry weather is expected until the next system arrives Friday. Long-range guidance shows the possibility of another surge of very cold air by the middle to end of next week.
