
A single-vehicle crash at approximately 9:20 p.m. Saturday, July 16, has fatally injured a Folkston, Ga. man. Lauren Kenneth Owens, 39, was critically injured when the 2005 Chevy Malibu in which he was a passenger left the roadway, and then struck a tree and a culvert.
Brandy Murphy Taylor, 41, of Hazlehurst, Ga., was also a passenger in the vehicle and was injured. Both were transported by helicopter to the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Hospital for treatment.
On Sunday, July 17, Owens succumbed to his injuries while at the hospital.
Driver Elizabeth Renea Brogdon, 37, of Piedmont was not injured. The crash occurred on Cherokee County 19 near Cherokee County 6, approximately nine miles north of Piedmont, in Cherokee County.
Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
