CENTRE, Ala. — The Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) of Cherokee County marked its 25th anniversary on Thursday, September 4, with its inaugural Blue Tie Gala at Centre First Methodist Church.

The event brought together community members, law enforcement, and local leaders to recognize the CAC’s vital work supporting victims of child abuse.

The featured speaker was Erin Merryn, founder of Erin’s Law, which requires schools to provide body-safety education to prevent sexual abuse. Merryn, a survivor herself, has dedicated more than two decades to advocacy.

“One in four girls and one in six boys will be sexually abused by their 18th birthday,” Merryn said. “That’s why prevention education is vital.”

Merryn shared her own childhood story, describing the fear of speaking to a forensic interviewer and the relief of being believed. That experience inspired her to use her voice for others.

Executive Director Lori Harris said Merryn’s message echoed the center’s mission. “This event is not just about raising funds—it’s about raising awareness, inspiring action, and healing hearts,” Harris said.

The evening also spotlighted the CAC’s quarter century of service, offering a safe space where children can be heard, believed, and begin healing.
