Where to Fight: Finding Strength in Spiritual Battles

LEESBURG, Ala. (TWLN) -“In my distress I prayed to the Lord, and the Lord answered me and set me free. The Lord is for me, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?”

— Psalm 118:5-6 (NLT)

Life often feels like a battlefield. Pressures mount, challenges arise, and sometimes it feels as though people around us are working against us. Yet Scripture offers a powerful reminder: people are not our true enemy. Our frustrations may be directed at neighbors, coworkers, or even family members—but the real battle is deeper, unseen, and spiritual.

“Our fight is not against people on earth. We are fighting against the rulers and authorities and the powers of this world’s darkness. We are fighting against the spiritual powers of evil in the heavenly world.”

— Ephesians 6:12 (ICB)

Understanding this truth re-centers our focus. If the battle is spiritual, then our battlefield is spiritual as well. That is why prayer is not just a ritual; it is a powerful weapon. It is where we lay down our fears, wounds, and conflicts before the Lord, who promises to fight for us.

The psalmist speaks of being brought into “a spacious place” by God. At first glance, this might seem risky—wide open and exposed, a perfect place to be attacked. Yet the spacious place is not about vulnerability; it is about the undeniable presence of God. The size of the field doesn’t matter—what matters is the One standing beside us. He will never abandon you. He will never stop fighting for you.

For anyone who feels weary or under attack today, this is your reminder: lift your eyes. God is with you. His presence is your freedom, His power your shield, and His love your ultimate victory.
