NORTHEAST ALABAMA — Residents across Alabama can expect a warm and spring-like day today as temperatures climb well above seasonal averages, but forecasters warn that a round of potentially strong thunderstorms could move into parts of the state Wednesday evening.

Warm and Pleasant Tuesday

Most communities across Alabama will see afternoon temperatures rise into the 80 to 85 degree range today under a mix of sunshine and scattered clouds. While a few isolated showers may develop during the afternoon hours, the chance of any single location seeing rainfall remains low, with only about a 15–20 percent probability.
Storms Possible Wednesday Night

Conditions will remain warm and breezy Wednesday, with a few thunderstorms potentially forming across the Tennessee Valley by late afternoon. However, the main round of storms is expected Wednesday evening into the nighttime hours.
The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has placed areas west of a line from Thomasville to Birmingham to Scottsboro under a Level 2 out of 5 “Slight Risk” for severe storms. Areas farther south, including Andalusia, Troy, and Lanett, fall under a Level 1 out of 5 “Marginal Risk.”
The primary window for severe weather is expected between 5:00 p.m. and midnight Wednesday night.
Forecasters say the main threat will be strong, potentially damaging winds, though an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out, particularly in the Level 2 risk area. Storms are expected to weaken as they push into South Alabama during the early morning hours on Thursday.
Cooler Air Arrives Thursday
Behind the storms, cooler and breezy conditions will move into the state Thursday as skies gradually clear. High temperatures will range from the upper 50s in the Tennessee Valley to the upper 60s closer to the coast.
Early Friday morning could bring scattered light frost across parts of North Alabama, where temperatures may dip into the 34–39 degree range.
Despite the chilly start, Friday will turn sunny and mild, with afternoon highs between 67 and 75 degrees.
Pleasant Weekend Ahead
The upcoming weekend is expected to bring classic spring weather across the state.
Saturday: Sunny skies with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s after a cool morning.
Sunday: A mix of sun and clouds with a small chance of an afternoon shower.
A cold front is expected to arrive late Sunday night, bringing some rain into the state after midnight and continuing into early Monday morning.
Possible Late-Season Freeze Next Week
Behind that front, a much colder air mass is expected to move into Alabama early next week. Forecast models indicate the potential for a late-season freeze across the northern half of the state by Tuesday morning, and possibly again Wednesday morning.
Temperatures are expected to rebound later in the week, with highs climbing back into the 70s by Friday under generally dry conditions.
Staying Weather-Aware
With the potential for severe storms Wednesday evening, residents are encouraged to stay weather-aware and monitor forecasts for updates, particularly across Central and North Alabama.
