Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Hosts Tactical Training with NYPD Emergency Service Unit Detective

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ala. — The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office recently hosted specialized tactical training designed to strengthen emergency response skills, improve officer safety and enhance cooperation among local law enforcement agencies.

The training was led by Detective Mike Rios of the New York City Police Department’s Emergency Service Unit, a specialized division that handles high-risk tactical, rescue and emergency operations.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Rios conducted separate training sessions for the department’s Emergency Response Team as well as deputies and officers from neighboring agencies.

The sessions focused on developing tactical skills, working through a variety of real-world scenarios and improving coordination so officers can respond more safely and effectively during high-risk situations.

Rios brought extensive experience to the training and shared techniques and knowledge that participating officers can take back and apply within their own departments.

Training opportunities such as this allow local law enforcement personnel to learn from experienced instructors while strengthening relationships among agencies that may be called upon to work together during emergencies.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office expressed appreciation to Rios for traveling to the area and sharing his time and experience with local officers.

“Detective Rios brought extensive experience to the training, sharing valuable knowledge and techniques that participants can apply within their own agencies,” the sheriff’s office stated.

The department said the training was another opportunity to continue building skills and preparing officers to respond safely and effectively when the community needs them most.
