Former Cedar Bluff Mayor Tammy Grace Crane Dies After More Than a Decade of Public Service

CEDAR BLUFF, Ala. — Former Cedar Bluff Mayor Tammy Grace Crane has died, current Mayor Bill Warren announced Thursday morning, marking the loss of a longtime public servant whose dedication to the town stretched across more than a decade.
“It is with a heavy heart that I am announcing the passing of Cedar Bluff former Mayor Tammy Grace Crane,” Warren said in a statement.
Crane’s death came five days after she and her sister were involved in what her son, Blake Butts, described in a social media post as a “horrific car wreck.”
Following the crash, Butts asked the community for prayers and said both women had been admitted to Floyd Medical Center in Rome, Georgia.
In subsequent updates shared publicly, Butts said Crane had sustained multiple injuries in the crash. He later reported that she had been transferred to the intensive care unit due to complications related to her injuries.
Five days after the crash, Butts announced his mother’s passing in an emotional tribute, remembering her as his safe place, his biggest supporter and one of the strongest people he had ever known.
Crane’s service to Cedar Bluff began before she became mayor. She represented District 2 on the Cedar Bluff Town Council for approximately two years before being appointed mayor in June 2014 following the resignation of then-Mayor Martha Baker.
She went on to serve as mayor through 2025, completing more than 11 years in the town’s top office.
In 2020, voters returned Crane to office with 304 votes, representing nearly 55 percent of the ballots cast.
Although she chose not to seek another term in 2025, Crane continued helping Cedar Bluff during the transition to Warren’s administration.
“Tammy was very helpful in the transitional period from her administration to mine because she loved Cedar Bluff,” Warren said.
During her tenure, Crane helped guide Cedar Bluff through infrastructure projects, park improvements, public-safety decisions and numerous community events.
She also led the town during the historic 2019 flooding along Weiss Lake, when widespread flooding caused property damage, displaced residents and created significant challenges for the community.
Crane’s commitment to Cedar Bluff extended well beyond Town Hall.
She remained closely involved with Cedar Bluff School, where she worked in the concession stand and dedicated countless hours to supporting the school, its students and the surrounding community.
Outside of public service, Crane owned Crane Cleaning.
Crane was married to Rodney Crane for 26 years. Her family was at the heart of her life, with her children and grandchildren holding an especially cherished place in her heart.
Warren also remembered Crane for the love she had for her family and her willingness to help others.
“She was always among the first to help someone in need and loved her family more than anything,” Warren said.
Warren asked residents to keep Crane’s family and friends in their thoughts and prayers during the difficult days ahead.
“Please remember and pray for her family and friends during this difficult time,” he said.
Crane leaves behind a legacy shaped not only by more than a decade of public service, but also by her deep involvement in the Cedar Bluff community, her devotion to her family and her willingness to help others.
