BROOMTOWN COMMUNITY, Cherokee County, Ala. - According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, shortly after noon on Tuesday, December 26, authorities were dispatched to Highway 35, near Watson's Crossroads in the Broomtown community due to an altercation between two brothers leaving one man deceased.
Upon the arrival at the scene by Cherokee County Sheriff's Deputies and emergency medical personnel, it was discovered a male had been shot by his brother.
Atrium Floyd Cherokee EMS was on the scene for treatment but the victim, 47-year-old Billy Mitchell, of Gaylesville, had succumbed to his injuries.
