CENTRE, Ala. - A routine afternoon turned chaotic Thursday when a Dodge Ram pickup truck crashed through the front doors of Pic ‘n Sav Grocery in Centre just after 1 p.m.

The truck barreled through the entrance, taking out three checkout stations before coming to a stop inside the store. Two employees were injured and transported to Atrium Health Floyd Cherokee ER for treatment. The driver and a passenger in the truck were reportedly shaken but able to walk away from the scene. The male driver was later taken to the ER for evaluation. Fortunately, no customers were hurt in the incident.
According to a store employee, the female passenger had been shopping inside moments before the crash. The employee said the woman had fallen in the store and was helped to her feet by staff before checking out and returning to the pickup with her groceries. The employee, who had gone back inside to resume work, said moments later the truck suddenly came crashing through the front doors, stopping only when it hit shelving.
Emergency crews from the Centre Fire Department, Centre Police Department, Cherokee County Rescue Squad, Cherokee County EMA, the Centre Building Inspector, and Atrium Floyd EMS all responded to the scene to secure the area and assist those involved.
Store management said Pic ‘n Sav will be temporarily closed while crews work to clean up debris, repair damage, and inspect electrical lines that were pulled loose in the crash.
“We’re just thankful everyone is okay,” one employee said. “It could have been a lot worse.”
The store hopes to reopen once repairs are complete and safety inspections are finished. Further details will be shared as they become available.
