RZR Accident Near Sand Rock Sends Two to Hospital

SAND ROCK, Ala. — Two individuals were transported to medical facilities in Rome, Georgia, following an RZR accident Friday evening on a trail just off County Road 48 near Sand Rock.


According to emergency response reports, the single-vehicle accident involving a Razor-style off-road vehicle was reported at approximately 7:40 p.m. The occupants of the vehicle were identified as two males, ages 22 and 18.


Personnel with the Sand Rock Fire Department who responded to the scene reported that both individuals sustained head injuries, while one of the victims also suffered injuries to an arm and leg.


Both patients were transported by Atrium Floyd EMS to medical facilities in Rome for further evaluation and treatment.


A medical evacuation helicopter was initially requested; however, after medical personnel arrived on scene and evaluated the patients, the air transport was canceled.


The Sand Rock Fire Department and Cherokee County Rescue Squad worked together to retrieve the victims from the wrecked vehicle and transport them to waiting ambulances. The Leesburg Police Department also assisted at the scene.


Additionally, the Leesburg Fire Department responded and established a landing zone at the FEMA building in preparation for the inbound medical helicopter prior to its cancellation.


According to information provided following the incident, both individuals have since returned home and are recovering from injuries sustained in the accident.


At this time, no further information has been released.
