FORT PAYNE, Ala. — A long-vacant commercial space in Fort Payne is set to see new life, as city officials have announced that a Ross Dress for Less store will be opening at the former Badcock Furniture location along Glenn Boulevard.
The announcement was made during the Fort Payne City Council meeting on January 20, where Mayor Brian Baine confirmed that the off-price retail chain plans to open at the site. According to Baine, the anticipated opening timeframe is late summer to early autumn of this year.
“It’s a deal we had done last term, but we were now able to release this information,” Baine said.
Ross Dress for Less, similar in concept to retailers such as Marshalls, is known for offering discounted brand-name clothing, home décor, and accessories. The company operates nearly 1,800 locations across the United States and Puerto Rico.
Local leaders expressed enthusiasm about the retailer’s arrival, noting it as another positive sign of Fort Payne’s continued commercial growth. With multiple new businesses in various stages of development throughout the city, officials say the addition of Ross reflects growing interest from national chains.
“I think it’s going to be a great thing to have them here,” said Jessica Townsel, executive director of the Fort Payne Chamber of Commerce. “The growth of big chains coming here is a good indicator of potential future growth.”
Mayor Baine echoed those sentiments, highlighting the economic benefits the store is expected to bring.
“It’s exciting to know businesses like these are looking at Fort Payne,” Baine said. “They will grow and add to our tax base, which will contribute to our general fund.”
Further details regarding construction timelines and an official opening date are expected to be released as the project progresses.
