LEESBURG, Ala. — A routine traffic stop in the Pollard’s Bend area of Leesburg Sunday night led to the arrest of a Cedar Bluff man on drug trafficking charges, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say the incident occurred on Sunday, March 29, when a narcotics investigator was patrolling along County Road 7. During the patrol, the investigator observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and initiated a traffic stop.

During the stop, the investigator developed probable cause to conduct a search of the vehicle. Officials reported that during the search, approximately 1.5 ounces of suspected methamphetamine were discovered.

The driver, identified as Jimmy Ray Ramey, 57, of Cedar Bluff, was taken into custody at the scene.

Ramey was charged with:

  • Trafficking in Methamphetamine

  • Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

He was transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center, where he remains in custody.

Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver praised the efforts of law enforcement, stating, "Our deputies and investigators work hard every day to remove illegal drugs from our streets. I am proud of their commitment, professionalism, and the work they do to protect the citizens of Cherokee County.”
