One of the Largest Drug Bust Made During Traffic Stop in Polk County



(Coosa Valley News)- Over the weekend, Polk County Police Officer Howard of the Uniformed Patrol Division was conducting speed enforcement in the area of Highway 27 / Lewis Road. Officer Howard observed a white 2012 Porsche Cayenne traveling at a high rate of speed. Officer Howard checked the vehicle’s speed with his RADAR and clocked the vehicle at 84mph in a 60mph zone.


Officer Howard attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the vehicle fled. A vehicle pursuit began and went South on Highway 27. The pursuit ultimately ended on Lake Creek Road / Highway 27, where the vehicle wrecked.


The offender (later identified as Jeffery Hodges a 35-year-old male from Rockmart) was subsequently taken into custody without incident. During the course of the investigation, the following was seized:

  • $59,138 in American Currency

  • (x100) suspected Ecstasy pills

  • Approximately 6 Ounces of suspected Cocaine

  • Approximately 8 Ounces of suspected Marijuana

  • (x25) prescription pills (all Schedule 4)

  • A Glock 26 (.9mm)


Mr. Hodges was charged with:


  • Speeding

  • Reckless Driving

  • Fleeing / Attempting to Elude

  • Expired Driver's License

  • Wrong Side of Road

  • Possession of Marijuana

  • Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute

  • Possession of Tools for the Commission of a Crime

  • Possession of a Schedule 4 Controlled Substance

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute

  • Possession of Ecstasy

  • Possession of Ecstasy with Intent to Distribute

  • Trafficking in Ecstasy

  • Possession of Cocaine

  • Trafficking in Cocaine

  • Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Crime

  • Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
