LEESBURG, Ala. — A new space for residents and their four-legged companions is now open in the Town of Leesburg, thanks to the dedication, leadership, and service of a local Scout working toward the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout.

Jeffrey Givens, a member of Scout Troop Pack 300 in Leesburg, has officially completed his Eagle Scout project with the creation of Remie’s Dog Park at Leesburg Park. The new park provides a safe and welcoming environment where residents can bring their dogs to play, exercise, and train. A dedication ceremony was held on February 28, marking the completion of a project that was more than a year in the making.

“Remie’s Dog Park stands as a lasting example of how one young leader’s vision and dedication can make a meaningful impact on an entire community.”

Achieving the rank of Eagle Scout—the highest honor in scouting—requires a significant commitment to leadership, service, and perseverance. As part of this process, scouts must plan and execute a service project that benefits their community, school, or a religious organization. Each project must be carefully developed, approved, and led by the scout from concept to completion.

Givens chose to give back to his community in a meaningful and lasting way by developing a dog park for the Town of Leesburg. After selecting his project, he created a detailed plan, secured the necessary approvals, and coordinated the materials and resources required to bring his vision to life.

Over the course of more than a year, Givens worked diligently to gather supplies, secure donations, and organize volunteers. With support from fellow scouts, scout parents, and members of the Weiss Lake community, the project steadily progressed toward completion.

Throughout the process, Givens demonstrated the leadership and initiative expected of an Eagle Scout candidate, directing volunteers and ensuring the project was completed efficiently and successfully.

During the February 28 dedication ceremony, community members gathered to celebrate the opening of Remie’s Dog Park and to recognize the collective effort behind its completion. Organizers expressed appreciation to the sponsors, volunteers, and supporters who played a role in making the project possible.

Now officially open to the public, Remie’s Dog Park stands as both a valuable addition to the Leesburg community and a lasting testament to Givens’ commitment to service and leadership.

As residents begin enjoying the new facility, the project not only enhances local recreational opportunities but also represents an important milestone in Givens’ journey toward achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.
