Nationwide Search Underway for Person of Interest in Perry County Homicide Investigation

PERRY COUNTY, Ala. — The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has launched a nationwide search for a person of interest connected to a homicide investigation in Perry County.
On Wednesday, November 12, 2025, SBI Special Agents opened the investigation at the request of the Perry County Sheriff’s Office after 68-year-old Jeffery Holifield of Marion was found deceased in the 2000 block of Onrow Tubbs Road in Marion.
During the course of the investigation, authorities identified Anastassja “Anya” or “Tess” Cooper, 32, of Marion as a person of interest they wish to question. SBI is asking for the public’s assistance in locating Cooper and has expanded the search nationwide.
According to investigators, Cooper was most recently seen in San Mateo, California and is believed to have family connections in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Oregon.
Cooper is described as:
White female
5’9” tall
Approximately 216 pounds
Brown hair and brown eyes
Authorities also said Cooper may be in possession of or traveling with a mixed-breed dog named “Banana.”
Anyone who sees Cooper or has information regarding her whereabouts is urged to contact the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation at 334-850-0910. Law enforcement advises the public not to approach individuals believed to be involved in active investigations and instead immediately notify authorities.

No additional details have been released at this time as the investigation remains ongoing.
