Human Remains Found in Truck Registered to a Man Reported Missing in 2013

LEESBURG, Ala. — According to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office human remains were recovered Friday morning from Weiss Lake at Chesnut Bay in the Leesburg area.


The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office said they received a tip from a fisherman reporting he had seen what he thought was a vehicle in the lake. Law enforcement then began looking for the vehicle.


The sheriff's office was able to locate the vehicle which was a truck registered to Oscar Lewis King and human remains were found inside the truck.



On Dec. 2, 2013, King, 72 of Centre was reported missing by his family. According to his family King had dementia and he was last seen driving his blue 2011 Dodge Dakota truck.


The remains are being sent to a forensics lab for identification confirmation, said Chief Deputy Josh Summerford with Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.


Jacksonville State’s Center for Applied Forensics and ALEA’s Marine Patrol assisted the Sheriff’s Office in the recovery.
