CENTRE, Ala. — A high-speed chase involving a Jaguar and the Centre Police Department ended in a rollover crash Monday night in Leesburg following a hit-and-run incident.
According to initial reports, the Jaguar allegedly sideswiped another vehicle near Walmart before fleeing the scene. A Centre Police officer soon spotted the car traveling along Highway 411 South and attempted a traffic stop. When the officer activated emergency lights, the driver refused to stop, accelerating to speeds in excess of 100 mph.
The chase continued into Leesburg, where the suspect turned onto County Road 7. The pursuit came to a halt near the intersection of County Road 7 and County Road 37 when the vehicle overturned and came to rest off the roadway.
Emergency crews responded quickly, with personnel from the Leesburg Fire Department, Leesburg Police Department, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, an Alabama Law Enforcement Agency trooper, and Atrium Floyd EMS all assisting at the scene. Their coordinated efforts ensured the area was secured and medical care was provided without delay.
The identity of the driver and the extent of injuries have not yet been released.
The Weekly Ledger News has reached out to Centre Police for comment, but no response has been provided as of press time.
