Groundbreaking held for Highway 55 Burgers, Shakes and Fries

Groundbreaking took place Monday morning at the site of the future Highway 55 Burgers, Shakes & Fries.

On hand were Ladd Environmental Consultants Owner James Payton, Retail Specialists associate Joe Strauss, Fort Payne City Council President Walter Watson, Fort Payne Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jennifer McCurdy, Fort Payne Mayor Brian Baine, Retail Specialists associate Scott VonCannon, Retail Strategies President Lacy Beasley, and Retail Specialists Development Manager Caleb Davis.

Highway 55 is a franchise with stores in 13 states, operating since 1991. The location is the former site of the Tourism welcome center that flooded on Easter Sunday in 2020. The elevation of the property is being raised as part of the development.

Mayor Baine said the restaurant is expected to open in November 2022.
