Fort Payne Announces Spring Yard Cleanup Schedule as Brush Trucks Begin Seasonal Rounds

TWLN Staff reporter | The Weekly Ledger News | Area Community News | March 10, 2026

FORT PAYNE, Ala. — With spring just around the corner, the City of Fort Payne is encouraging residents to begin preparing their yards for seasonal cleanup as city brush trucks begin making their routine rounds throughout the community.

City officials say the service helps residents dispose of common yard debris and bulky household items while keeping neighborhoods clean and safe during the spring season.

Residents are reminded that brush piles must be no larger than the size of a truck bed per week per residence, and all debris must originate from the resident’s own property. Materials generated by commercial tree services, landscapers, or contractors will not be collected by the city’s sanitation department.

Accepted Items for Free Pickup

The city will collect several types of debris and bulk items free of charge, including:

  • Brush, small limbs, and dead trees cut from the resident’s immediate yard area

  • Bulk items originating from inside the home, garage, or basement that are too large to fit inside the city-issued 95-gallon garbage container

  • Appliances, furniture, and similar bulky household items

  • Pine straw, leaves, and grass clippings if they are bagged and placed at the curb

City officials note that the list of accepted bulk items may change periodically depending on operational needs.

Items Not Accepted

The sanitation department will not collect certain materials, including:

  • Paint or other liquid materials

  • Hazardous items or materials considered unsafe for handling

  • Stumps, tree trunks, or concrete pieces weighing more than 500 pounds

  • Roofing shingles

  • Tree limbs longer than eight feet

  • Materials that are scattered or not properly placed into organized piles

Residents are asked to place brush and yard debris neatly along the roadside to allow sanitation crews to safely and efficiently collect materials during their scheduled routes.

City officials say the seasonal cleanup effort plays an important role in maintaining Fort Payne’s appearance while helping reduce potential hazards caused by excess yard debris.

“We encourage everyone to take advantage of the brush truck service and help keep Fort Payne looking its best as we head into the spring season,” city officials said.
