Emergency officials confirmed that multiple fatalities have been reported and at least 19 individuals remain missing, with several others transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The explosion was reported shortly before 8:00 a.m., during the company’s regular shift change — a timing that may have increased the number of employees on site at the time of the blast.
Accurate Energetic Systems manufactures and handles energetic materials used in military, aerospace, and commercial demolition applications. According to its website, the company is “dedicated to the development, manufacture, handling, and storage of high-quality energetic products utilized in both defense and commercial markets.”
Emergency crews from multiple jurisdictions, including Humphreys County Emergency Management, are on scene, working alongside federal investigators from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI).
Thick smoke and debris could be seen for miles, and authorities have established a wide perimeter around the site due to ongoing safety concerns and potential secondary explosions.
Officials have not yet released the number of confirmed fatalities or the identities of those involved. Family notification and search-and-rescue operations remain ongoing.
Residents in nearby communities reported feeling the shockwave and hearing the explosion from several miles away. Local schools and businesses have been advised to shelter in place as a precaution while emergency teams continue their response.
Authorities are urging the public to avoid the area to allow first responders full access to the site.
This remains a developing story. The Weekly Ledger News will continue to provide updates as new information becomes available.
