GADSDEN, Ala. — Authorities are investigating after a man’s body was discovered in the Coosa River Saturday morning.

According to Chief Josh Morgan of the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office, Gadsden Police and Fire personnel responded on Saturday, Feb. 7, following reports of a possible person in the river. Officials say the body was located by a fisherman.
Morgan stated that, through the sheriff’s office’s ongoing partnership with Gadsden authorities, a detective requested assistance during the initial stages of the investigation. The collaborative effort aims to determine jurisdictional responsibility and ensure a thorough examination of the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Officials confirmed that the district attorney’s office has been notified. The body will be transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science for identification and an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
At this time, authorities say efforts are underway to notify the next of kin.
This is a developing story. Updates will be provided as additional information becomes available.
