Another Arctic Blast Set to Grip Northeast Alabama This Weekend

NORTHEAST ALABAMA — After a brief midweek moderation, another surge of bitterly cold arctic air is expected to move into Alabama just in time for the weekend, bringing some of the coldest temperatures of the season back to Northeast Alabama.


According to the National Weather Service, temperatures today will be slightly higher than earlier this week but will remain chilly across the region. Northeast Alabama can expect partly sunny skies today with highs near 45 degrees, followed by mostly clear conditions tonight with lows dropping to around 20 degrees.

Seven-Day Forecast for Northeast Alabama



Today:

Partly sunny, becoming mostly sunny. High near 45. Calm winds becoming northwest around 5 mph.


Tonight:

Mostly clear with a low around 20. Calm wind.


Thursday:

Partly sunny with a high near 45. Calm wind.


Thursday Night:

Partly cloudy with a low around 24.


Friday:

Partly sunny with highs near 44. Northwest winds around 5 mph developing in the afternoon.

Friday Night: Mostly cloudy with lows near 17.


Saturday:

Mostly sunny but significantly colder, with highs struggling to reach the upper 20s.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy with lows around 12.


Sunday:

Sunny and cold, with a high near 36.

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy with lows near 16.


Monday:

Mostly sunny with highs rebounding to near 45.

Monday Night: Lows around 21.


Tuesday:

Mostly sunny with warmer temperatures returning, highs near 51.



Another Arctic Blast Incoming



Forecasters are warning that another arctic blast will arrive Friday and persist through the weekend, bringing temperatures 20 to 30 degrees below normal in some areas. Saturday is expected to be the coldest day, with highs remaining in the 20s across much of North and Northeast Alabama.


Overnight lows Saturday night into Sunday morning could be just as cold as earlier in the week, with teens likely across most of the region and isolated single-digit temperatures possible in parts of Northeast Alabama.

Snow Chances Remain Low



While the cold air will be firmly in place, forecasters say chances for weekend snowfall remain low as of midweek, though residents are encouraged to stay weather-aware as conditions evolve.



Cold Weather Safety Reminder


With prolonged freezing temperatures expected, residents are urged to:


  • Protect pets, plants, and exposed pipes

  • Check on elderly neighbors and those without adequate heat

  • Use space heaters safely and avoid unsafe heating methods
