Colossians 3:16-17
“Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom…”
We all tend to get caught up in our own little kingdoms. I have much to do
concerning work, life, and just existing. My focus is me. As I am going about my daily business, I encounter problems and difficulties. My first reaction is to blow up at the
person causing me the most trouble at the time. I overreact, hurt their feelings,
make a fool of myself and ruin my witness in one angry moment. Is anybody
with me?
I have too much to do, did not schedule my day well, and take it out on some
innocent person I encounter. Or I hold it in all day and then take it out on the
people I live with. The ones who love me most.
The Bible tells us we are in a wrestling match. We have to juggle many
tasks, and feelings, and we must still meet all the expectations placed upon us. We wear many hats most days. What is most important in our schedule changes from minute to
minute. This creates turmoil. That turmoil has a source.
Ephesians 6:12 tells us that we don’t wrestle against flesh and blood, but
against principalities, powers, and spiritual wickedness in high places. In short,
there are many things going on we can’t see. The enemy is strategically hunting
you down trying to devour you (I Peter 5:8). How can we win the war when we
can’t even see our opponent?
This is where most of us go wrong. We try to fight alone. Apart from Christ,
by yourself, you will choose self-preservation, and even when you seem to be
choosing to serve others, the motivation will be wrong. I still am most interested in
my little kingdom.
Only when we focus on Christ first can we find the power to overcome.
There can be peace in the battle knowing He has overcome sin, death, and the
devil. He offers you His overcoming power. Just Believe in Him, and turn to Him
first. When you do, the spiritual attack will seem small when compared to His
overwhelming love for you.
