CENTRE, Ala. — A teacher at Cherokee County High School has been arrested following an investigation by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office
According to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, investigators were notified of a potential situation involving a teacher at Cherokee County High School. Following that investigation, deputies arrested 25-year-old Billy Stephen Turner, charging him with one count of transmitting obscene material to a child by computer.

Authorities say the case remains under active investigation, and no additional details are being released at this time. Due to the involvement of a minor, certain information may be withheld to protect the student’s identity and privacy. Officials indicate that more information will be released as it becomes available through investigators and prosecutors.
In response to the situation, the Cherokee County Board of Education convened an emergency meeting Thursday afternoon, April 30, at the Central Office Board Room in Centre.
The meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m., where a quorum was established and proper public notification procedures were confirmed prior to approval of the agenda.
During the session, board members addressed a personnel matter involving Turner. The board approved an amendment to his previously submitted resignation, changing the effective date from June 1, 2026, to immediate effect.
No additional business was discussed during the meeting.
Board officials noted that their next regularly scheduled meeting will take place on Monday, May 11, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at the Central Office.
This remains an ongoing investigation, and officials emphasize that details are limited at this time.
