AUSTELL, Ga. — A man died Monday following a fatal incident involving the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia, prompting an emergency response, the evacuation of stranded riders and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
According to witness accounts, the man reportedly fell from the roller coaster while the attraction was operating. Witnesses described a disturbing scene, claiming the man struck portions of the ride multiple times during the fall.
One witness said that the incident was captured in a souvenir photograph taken during the ride.
"He was in our pictures," the witness said. "He fell and hit the car three different times."
Although witnesses reported seeing the man fall, the circumstances leading to the incident have not been officially confirmed by investigators.
The fatality caused operations on the roller coaster to stop, leaving passengers aboard another train stranded along an elevated section of the attraction. According to witness accounts, the victim was riding in a separate train ahead of the one carrying the passengers who later required assistance.
Park employees and emergency responders worked to evacuate the stranded riders, helping them exit the train and make their way down an emergency stairway. The incident also reportedly prompted an evacuation of the amusement park Monday.
Following the tragedy, Six Flags Over Georgia released an official statement expressing condolences to the victim's family and confirming that park personnel and local authorities responded immediately.
"We are deeply saddened by the guest incident at our park today. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the guest’s family, friends, and loved ones. We are also providing support to the guests and team members affected," the statement read.
"The park team and local authorities responded immediately, and we are cooperating fully with local authorities as they complete their investigation. Out of respect for the family’s privacy, we will not be sharing additional details at this time."
Authorities have not released the victim's identity or announced an official cause of the incident. Investigators have also not publicly determined whether equipment malfunction, a restraint-related issue, or other circumstances played a role in the man's death.
Goliath, one of the park's most prominent roller coasters, opened in 2006 and was manufactured by Swiss roller coaster designer Bolliger & Mabillard. According to Six Flags, the steel roller coaster stands approximately 200 feet tall and reaches speeds of up to 70 miles per hour.
The fatal incident has raised questions about what occurred aboard the attraction, although no official findings concerning the cause have been announced.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional details are expected as authorities continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
