DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. — The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office has announced that its offices will be temporarily closed from January 5 through January 9 due to what officials described as “sickness going around.” The precautionary closure is intended to help protect both employees and members of the public who utilize the office’s in-person services.
According to the sheriff’s office, the decision was made after multiple staff members reported illness, prompting leadership to limit contact and reduce the risk of additional spread. While the physical office will remain closed to the public during this period, essential law-enforcement operations will continue without interruption.
Patrol services, emergency response, and 911 operations remain fully active, and deputies will continue to respond to calls for service.
Residents with non-emergency business are encouraged to use phone or online resources when possible and to delay in-person visits until normal office operations resume.
The sheriff’s office stated it appreciates the community’s understanding as it prioritizes the health and safety of both staff and citizens.
The office is expected to reopen on January 10, pending improved conditions.
