Scottsboro Police Officer Shoot; Manhunt Underway for ‘Armed and Dangerous’ Suspect

SCOTTSBORO, Ala. - A Scottsboro police officer was shot and injured early Saturday morning.


At approximately 12:49 a.m. on Saturday, officers responded to a domestic incident on Ruth St. The suspect then fled the scene in a vehicle before crashing at the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 72 and County Park Rd. Once he got out of the car, investigators say he began firing shots and struck an officer on the scene. That officer is in stable condition and being treated at Huntsville Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.


The suspect took off running on foot, and since then, multiple law enforcement agencies, including Special Agents assigned to ALEA’s State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), Troopers assigned to ALEA’s Highway Patrol and federal partners to include the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the United States Marshals Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) have been searching for the suspect with manpower and drones around the U.S. Hwy 72 and County Park Road area. Please avoid this area if possible. 


The suspect was identified as 29-year-old Daniel Victor McCarn, a former Huntsville resident now residing in Scottsboro. McCarn is described as having brown hair, brown eyes, a height of 5′10″, and a weight of approximately 260 lbs.

McCarn is considered armed and dangerous, and the Scottsboro Police Department is asking the community to be on high alert and be aware of their surroundings.


If you have any information concerning McCarn’s whereabouts, do not approach him but call 911 immediately. ALEA will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates accordingly, so continue to follow The Weekly Ledger News, which will update with more information as it becomes available.
