SARDIS, Ala. — A Wednesday evening crash along U.S. Highway 431 has claimed the life of a Sardis woman after she was struck by multiple vehicles near her residence, according to local authorities.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:54 p.m. between Coal Ridge Road and Carlisle Road, as confirmed by Sardis Police Chief Keith Beaird.

Chief Beaird said the victim, Tracey Smith Curtis, 58, was struck first by a semi-truck and subsequently by two additional vehicles while she was in the roadway.

“It appeared she was with her dog at the time,” Beaird said. “We are unsure if she entered the roadway to retrieve the dog, but that is what we are suspecting. She had only lived in the Sardis area for about a month.”

According to Beaird, Boaz Police Chief Mike Turner was the first officer to arrive on scene, followed shortly by a citizen with a medical background who attempted to assist.

“She was initially struck in the outside lane, but her final resting place was in the inside lane,” Beaird said.

Authorities confirmed the semi-truck involved initially left the scene but has since been located, and the driver is being questioned. Officials say all vehicles and drivers involved have now been accounted for.

The crash remains under active investigation. No additional details have been released at this time.

Chief Beaird expressed gratitude to assisting agencies, including the Boaz Police Department, the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office, and the Alabama State Troopers, for their support during the response and ongoing investigation.
