History Made- Georgia State Patrol Announces First Woman Helicopter Pilot

GEORGIA- The Georgia State Patrol has made history by naming its first-ever female pilot. Trooper Haley Jo Lucas has received her wings and joined GSP’s Aviation Division.

Georgia State Patrol Colonel Christopher Wright said, “We celebrate another milestone with the Department of Public Safety. We hope Trooper Lucas’ accomplishment inspires other young women to pursue their dreams.”

Lucas becomes one of just 14 pilots in the division. Lt. Col. Stephanie Stallings, the first Lt. Col. in the history of the GSP, joined Lucas for her pinning ceremony last week.

“I am extremely honored for TFC Lucas to be in the category of “historic firsts.” She is leading the way for other young women to follow and is a valuable addition to the GSP Aviation Division,” said Lt. Col. Stallings.

The GSP Aviation Division has a fleet of 12 helicopters and six hangars throughout the state. They primarily work on search and rescue missions, putting out fires, and any other need that requires aerial support. (WZQZ)
