TWLN Marks Sullivan’s Birthday While Recognizing Her Leadership and Dedication to Community News

LEESBURG, Ala. - The Weekly Ledger News is celebrating a special birthday today as Publisher and Managing Editor Taniesa L. Sullivan turns 48 — and yes, that is really her age. She gave us permission to print it.

The Weekly Ledger News first went into publication in August 2021, with its first printed edition distributed on Friday, Aug. 13, 2021. At the time, the publication offered both a printed newspaper and a digital e-newspaper edition, giving readers multiple ways to stay connected with local news.

The newspaper was founded by Tanya L. Smith, with Sullivan serving as office manager and assistant editor during the publication’s first year.

In 2022, after approximately one year in publication, Smith stepped away from journalism to pursue other opportunities. The newspaper was then purchased by Sullivan and her husband, Scott Sullivan, and Taniesa stepped into the role of Publisher and Managing Editor — a position she has continued to hold ever since.

For Sullivan, local journalism has always been about more than simply reporting the news. It is about serving the community, helping neighbors stay informed and making sure the stories, events and people that matter locally have a place to be seen and heard.

“Local journalism is about keeping our communities connected and informed,” Sullivan said. “It means making sure our readers know what is happening around them and giving a voice to the people, organizations and communities we serve.”

Outside of the newsroom, Sullivan remains active in her community and her church, with service to others continuing to be an important part of both her personal life and her work with The Weekly Ledger News.

Over the years, Sullivan has continued working to grow the publication while maintaining its commitment to covering local, area, late-breaking and community news throughout Northeast Alabama and Northwest Georgia.

Today, the staff of The Weekly Ledger News would like to take a moment away from the headlines to recognize the woman behind so much of the work that goes into keeping TWLN readers connected each day.
