HEAT ADVISORY ISSUED FOR CENTRAL ALABAMA THROUGH SATURDAY

Heat Index Values Could Reach 107 Degrees

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Residents across Central Alabama are being urged to prepare for several days of dangerously hot and humid conditions as a Heat Advisory is set to go into effect Wednesday morning.

According to information released by the National Weather Service in Birmingham, the Heat Advisory will be in effect for all of Central Alabama from 10 a.m. Wednesday through 8 p.m. Saturday, September 5.

Forecasters say the combination of high temperatures and elevated humidity levels could produce heat index values as high as 107 degrees, particularly from the late morning through the mid-afternoon hours.

Those spending extended periods outdoors are encouraged to take precautions to reduce the risk of heat-related illness. Residents should drink plenty of fluids, take frequent breaks in air-conditioned or shaded areas and avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest portions of the day whenever possible.

Extra precautions should also be taken for children, older adults, outdoor workers and anyone particularly vulnerable to extreme heat.

Never leave children or pets unattended inside a vehicle, even for a short period of time. Temperatures inside a parked vehicle can become dangerous very quickly.

Residents are encouraged to check on elderly family members, friends and neighbors throughout the prolonged period of extreme heat.
