HAVE YOU BEEN SET FREE?

Many people have had an experience with Christ and would consider themselves saved, but their life does not demonstrate this on a day-to-day level. Scripture is clear that once we have come to faith in Christ, we have freedom (Galatians 5:1), but most of us don’t know exactly what that means.

To know what freedom, or liberty should look like, we have to know what we are being set free of. Sin is what keeps us in bondage. Bondage is the opposite of freedom. Sin keeps our life bound up in self, ignoring others. Sin brings forth death in our lives and separates us from God eternally (Romans 6:23). Christ came to set us free from sin. We expect to be spared the punishment of sin when we die, but this freedom should affect our daily lives. By the power of the Holy Spirit, you can live free NOW.

The Galatian believers started out on a path with Christ, but they have been deceived and are walking in disobedience. Paul encourages them not to be entangled again with this yoke of bondage. Rituals don’t please God. What pleases Him is Faith (Hebrews 11:6). Even more specifically, faith which results in love (Galatians 5). A life of freedom in Christ is a life lived loving and serving others. Christ has made it possible for you to love others more than you love yourself. So I ask, have you been set free?
