ROME, Ga. —A Rome man is facing serious charges after authorities say he struck a child in the face with a T-ball bat during an incident last week.

According to Floyd County authorities, the assault occurred on Thursday at an apartment complex on Dodd Boulevard. Deputies allege that Larry Anthony, 38, of Rome, used a pink T-ball bat to hit the child, causing injury.

Anthony was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault and cruelty to children in the first degree, both felonies under Georgia law. He was later released on Sunday after posting a $10,100 bond. As a condition of his release, Anthony has been ordered to have no contact with the child involved.

Authorities have not released the child’s age or clarified Anthony’s relationship to the victim, citing the sensitivity of the case.

The investigation remains ongoing, and officials say further details may be released as the case moves forward in court.
