GADSDEN — The Cardinal Foundation is hosting a fundraiser to benefit the Gadsden State Community College Cardinal Café on the Wallace Drive Campus. The foundation is a non-profit organization established to raise, manage, distribute and steward resources to support Gadsden State.
“It has been many years since the Cardinal Café has seen a substantial renovation,” said John Roberson, director of Development and Alumni Relations. “A renovation will create a more welcoming environment for our students, employees, and community. We want it to be the place of choice for meetings, study groups, hanging out, and having a bite to eat.”
The Cardinal Foundation is raising funds to upgrade the space. Sodexo, the provider of Gadsden State’s cafeteria services, is matching the amount raised by the Foundation up to $30,000.
Community Movie Night, the first Cardinal Café fundraiser, will be held on Dec. 16 and 17 at the Wallace Hall Fine Arts Center. It will feature the timeless classic, “A Christmas Story.” There are two different experiences available to those who want to support the Cardinal Foundation while having fun.
On Dec. 16, the Holiday Mix and Mingle will begin at 6 p.m. It will include a silent auction, appetizers, and cider from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The movie will begin at the conclusion of the Mix and Mingle. Tickets are $35 per person.
The Dec. 17 event is Family Fun Night. It will begin at 5 p.m. with an hour of fun activities, including Letters to Santa, Coloring with Swoop, and cookie decorating for the first 50 children and carolers. The movie will begin at 6 p.m. Concessions will be available for purchase. Tickets are $12.50 per person or four for $40.
Both events will include a special photo opportunity on a set from “A Christmas Story” with characters Ralphie, Randy, Mother Parker, and Old Man Parker. The set and characters are provided by the Theatre of Gadsden.
Sponsorships from $250 to $1,000 are available. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.gadsdenstate.edu/cardinalfoundation.
