Fort Payne Police and FBI Investigate Bank Robbery

FORT PAYNE, Ala. — The Fort Payne Police Department, in coordination with the FBI, is investigating a bank robbery that occurred downtown Fort Payne on Tuesday morning. Residents and nearby businesses were advised to remain alert as authorities continue their investigation.
As a precaution, surrounding businesses were placed on lockdown. Area schools were also placed on a secure perimeter while police and federal officers secured the scene. School officials emphasized that these measures were precautionary, given the nature of the incident.
According to Fort Payne Police, at approximately 9:20 a.m., a white male, described as wearing blue jeans, a long-sleeve button-down shirt, and a black ball cap, entered the PNC Bank at 200 Gault Avenue North. The suspect was reportedly armed with a handgun.
Police reported that the individual presented a note to the bank teller demanding money. After obtaining approximately $3,000, the suspect left the bank and began walking north.

Authorities confirmed that the scene remains active but emphasized that there is no immediate threat to the public. The investigation is ongoing, and officers are actively searching for the suspect. Fort Payne Police have released photos and a video of the suspect along with a photo of his vehicle, which are available to the public.
