CENTRE, Ala. — On November 19, 2025, David Akin and Beverly Akin, both of Centre, were arrested following a Grand Jury indictment for Theft of Property in the First Degree.
According to the Centre Police Department, the investigation began in late September 2025 after the Centre Police Department received a report of missing funds from the Cherokee County Youth Football League. Upon receiving the complaint, Centre Police launched a full investigation into the alleged financial discrepancies. According to authorities, the inquiry uncovered evidence indicating that a substantial amount of money had been misappropriated.
The findings were presented to a Cherokee County Grand Jury in early November 2025. After reviewing the evidence, the Grand Jury determined there was sufficient cause to formally charge David and Beverly Akin with felony theft.
Authorities remind the public that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
In Alabama, Theft of Property in the First Degree is classified as a Class B felony, punishable by 2 to 20 years in prison and fines of up to $30,000, applying to cases involving property valued at over $2,500.
