SPRING GARDEN, Ala. – A two-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 3:15 PM on Thursday, August 21, has claimed two young lives.

The driver, an 18-year-old female, and the passenger, a 12-year-old female, both of Spring Garden, were fatally injured when the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek they were in was struck by a 2006 Kenworth tractor-trailer, logging truck that was being driven by Keith L. Nance, 61, of Heflin.

Emergency personnel with McCord’s Crossroads Fire Department, Spring Garden Fire Department, Atrium Floyd EMS, Cherokee County Rescue Squad, Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency, and Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division were all dispatched to the crash.

Both juveniles in the Subaru were pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash.

According to information from ALEA, the logging truck was reportedly unloaded at the time of the crash.

The crash is still under investigation with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Troopers. Details about the exact cause of the accident and the names of the two deceased juveniles have not yet been released.

The Weekly Ledger News was informed that the two deceased juveniles were sisters and they both attended Spring Garden School. The 18-year-old had graduated from Spring Garden in May, and the 12-year-old had just started in the sixth grade. This tragedy has deeply shaken the Spring Garden and Forney communities.

Please keep the two young girls' family, friends, neighbors, and community in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
